Veritas Gold for two top tier Roodeberg blends
Two Roodeberg top tier blends from the standout 2017 vintage, the signature red, Dr Charles Niehaus, and the commemorative ‘1949’, struck Gold at the 2020 Veritas awards, South Africa’s premier wine competition.
Both these wines rose to critical acclaim on the world stage earlier this year with Gold medals from the Decanter World Wine Awards in London for Roodeberg 1949 and Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards in Germany for Dr Charles Niehaus.
Dedicated to Roodeberg’s illustrious founder, Dr Charles Niehaus has evolved since its maiden vintage in 2010 into a formidable Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz driven blend. The wine was launched as the jewel in the Roodeberg crown to honour Dr Niehaus for his pioneering winemaking achievements and creator of this cherished South African wine brand over 70 years ago.
Fruit purity and complexity are the crux of this super-premium Roodeberg. The award winning 2017 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (39%), Shiraz (37%), Malbec (10%), Merlot (7) and Cabernet Franc (7%).
Rigorous selection from the vineyard to the barrel is the bedrock of Roodeberg’s limited edition ‘1949’. Launched last year to celebrate the brand’s momentous 70th anniversary, it is a multifaceted blend Cabernet Sauvignon (38%), Tempranillo (29%), Carignan (20%) and Carménère (13%) showing excellent structure, supple tannins and fleshy fruit with outstanding purity and balance.
