Cabernet Sauvignon is king at TOKARA with both their Reserve Collection and estate wines from the formidable 2017 vintage crowned in Veritas Double Gold and Gold glory at South Africa’s premier wine competition.
The forward thinking vision of owners GT and Anne-Marie Ferreira to make Cabernet Sauvignon a cornerstone variety on their Stellenbosch property, is the golden thread that runs through TOKARA’s consistent ability to produce exceptional award winning wines over more than 20 vintages.
Despite a year of relentless challenges, 2020 has been phenomenal in the awards stakes for TOKARA Reserve Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2017. The slew of accolades includes two Double Gold medals respectively from Veritas and Michelangelo International Wine Awards, Platter’s 5-stars, and a Top 10 ranking in Winemag.co.za’s Prescient Cabernet Sauvignon Report.
A true expression of the estate’s prized vineyard blocks on the slopes of the Simonsberg, this full-bodied, richly textured Reserve Collection Cabernet Sauvignon is vibrant and bright with classic graphite notes, black cherry, briary fruits and pleasant hints of fresh herbs and red currant interwoven with five spice and cedar wood.
The Veritas Gold medallist, TOKARA’s more accessible Premium Cabernet Sauvignon, also struck international gold this year at the annual Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge in France. A blend of diverse vineyard sites, the wine is the quintessential expression of TOKARA terroir. The 2017 vintage has inviting dried cranberry, red currant and subtle cassis aromas with hints of dried herbs and tobacco spice. Expect a mouthful of sweet berries interwoven with spice and light toasty notes imparted during barrel maturation.
