At GC Communications, we recognise the importance of community and are in the fortunate position to be able to devote some of our time to invest in and support the work of a dynamic Cape Town based non-profit organisation that works tirelessly to improve the lives of street children. We took StreetSmart SA under our wing since its inception under the patronage of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu over 15 years ago, providing assistance in shaping the brand and generating media exposure entirely on a pro bono basis. As a team, StreetSmart South Africa has grown close to our hearts and we hope to continue providing our time and support for many years to come. We look forward to contributing towards the growth of the StreetSmart footprint, thereby bringing new hope to thousands of marginalised children across the length and breadth of South Africa.
StreetSmart SA is a registered non-profit organisation dedicated towards helping street children rebuild their lives through donations from restaurants in the Western Cape, Southern Cape and Gauteng. Restaurants raise funds by adding a R5 donation to each table’s bill. This donation is voluntary and diners have the option to donate more. All funds raised by the restaurants go to selected StreetSmart beneficiaries, who spend the funds on education, skills training and family reunification programs, helping street children to live a viable life in society.
StreetSmart SA, was set up by a group of concerned Capetonians in 2005 and comprises resourceful board members representing business and the hospitality and tourism industries. Similar StreetSmart organisations also run independently in the UK, San Francisco and Melbourne.
